As 2022 drew to a close, Alan Dunn engaged David Michael Clarke in a conversation as to what was his favourite track of all-time. DMC felt uneasy about the question, preferring to leave questions concerning eternity to God, artificial intelligence or any other all-seeing entity. Nonetheless, the discussion pursued, with DMC revealing pretty much all that there is to know about his personal introduction to music.

Both AD and DMC seemed to get excited when talk turned to Forbidden Colours, the song that Ryuichi Sakamoto wrote for the film, MERRY CHRISTMAS MR LAWRENCE, or FURYO as it is known in France. AD asked DMC if he would ‘unbox’ the song for his TOP TEN zine.

In order to understand the song better, to know it more intimately, DMC asked his friend Michel Morillon to teach him how to play it on the piano. Over the next few weeks, several lessons took place which were recorded on a small digital device and then edited into two eight short tracks. Two extra tracks were specially produced for a 'very' limited 5" vinyl edition that comes complete with badges and booklet. The full album is free to download here on Bandcamp. Together with Elina Bry, he wrote four songs that tell the story of « Piacé-le-Radieux ». Two years later, while setting up a new show for the Musée Calbet, near Toulouse, Maxwell Farrington joined DMC to write some new songs about flying hedgehogs and more. ... more
